eye wish i had a potion or something like that, that i could take and forget a movie after i've already seen it. maybe only cinephiles would understand this wish. there is a type of suspense that exists the first time around, not only the suspense that ='s "what's going to happen next?", but the small revelations, like the way a scene is shot with just the right actor or cast, with the music playing in such a way, that you are suspended for a moment, like the hairs on the back of your neck stand up from the beauty. a shock of joy really. but then when you see the movie again you anticipate the scene, and maybe the hairs rise again, but something is lost. it is sad. you think if only i could go back fresh and naive to it all. And those adverts that say see it again for the very first time... this is only true of some films. Like when you are little and you like a particular movie, like say the black stallion, or say your grandfather takes you to see a Chaplin film at a museum. But you are little and young and you love the escape and the adventure, and for some reason you don't miss the sound of voices (as in the case of Chaplin). Then you see the same movies later on when you are older and more film literate. You still enjoy the escape and adventure, but the films open their arms even wider and you see more beauty. This is mainly only with nostalgic type films, or sometimes with movies that are loaded with so much stuff to feed your eyes with that you need to see them again to really soak it all up. But even in this case you lose something. like in citizen kane, the opening scene is really haunting and you don't breath, but then you see it again (& again & again & again) - you still you get chills but I don't know, you are not able to reach that same height of awareness. so i wish, i wish i could have film alltimers. (But not like my mom's type of movie alltimers, the kind where you rent a movie thinking you haven't seen it before when you really just had rented it the week before. You put the movie in, sit down on the couch, watch the previews, the film starts-- hmm this looks familiar - oh. / no not that kind.)
